Upcoming Performances

Wilde Opera Nights 2017 opens with the comedic masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest, set by one of the 20th Century‘s master concert and film composers, Mario Castelnuevo-Tedesco. This famous romp is brought to life in full staging with music that pokes as much fun at the opera world as Wilde does at Victorian Society.

Alexander Zemlinsky was inspired by the Wilde short story, The Birthday of the Infanta, the second of the three Wilde-inspired productions. Famous in its day, this seldom heard opera soars with music reminiscent of Strauss and Korngold. A dramatic and musical tour de force.

Closing the 2017 season, Gilbert and Sullivan’s early hit, Patience; or, Bunthorne’s Bride, explores the world of artistic and intellectual circles, and all the quirky paradoxes prevalent among the Victorian elite. With their usual panache, they delve into the world that Wilde skewered with his pen.
